Meet Margherita Szabó

Counselling Psychotherapist

My name is Mags and I am a qualified integrative counsellor and the founder of ACT Affordable Counselling & Therapy.

I believe that counselling should be available to everyone who wishes to access it, which is why I believe in offering effective counselling at affordable prices.

I hold an FDA in Integrative Counselling and graduated from Plymouth University. I have an interest in Mindfulness and incorporate this within my own life as well as in my practice. I believe being mindful can help us to increase our ability to regulate our emotions and decrease anxiety, stress and depression, whilst focusing our attention to our thoughts and feelings.

I have experience working with both adults and young people, however, in recent years my focus has been on supporting young people within education who may be struggling with the pressures of university life. A change in environment and being away from home, exam pressure and expectations, unfamiliarity, loneliness or a sense or overwhelm can cause real anxiety and stress

Being an integrative counsellor means that I use a number of different techniques, and am able to tailor my skills and knowledge to find a collaborative and suitable way of working with you as a unique individual.

My practice is inclusive and diverse and my work is guided by the ethos of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, of which I am an accredited member. I am also fully DBS checked.

The cost of sessions are £50 for a 50 minute session, however some concessionary rates are available for those on a low income and for students, so please do ask.

We can also offer a free initial session, which would be for around 20 minutes, so we can talk about what it is you would like support with and what it is you would like to get out of counselling.

Why Counselling?

It can help with

Depression

Depression is extreme sadness or despair that lasts more than a few days and affects people in different ways. Through therapy you can learn new ways to better cope with and manage symptoms of depression. These strategies can lead to recovery and enable you to function at your best.

Anxiety

Anxiety can cause you to constantly worry, have disturbed concentration and give you a sense of dread.  It can also present physical symptoms, such as faster breathing and heart rate, sweating and headaches. Counselling can help you explore the cause of these feelings, understand them and suggest ways of dealing with situations, and change your relationship with anxiety

Relationship issues

Relationship difficulties may include infidelity, communication difficulties, financial pressures or boundary violations. Counselling can provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment to help you identify problems or issues in a relationship and find a way of working  through those difficulties

Mental Health

Mental Health problems, issues or disorders can effect your mood, thinking and behaviour. It can present as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, addictive behaviours'  and cause difficulty in regulating emotions. Therapy can help you gain a better understanding of your thoughts  processes and feelings , and find your own solutions to problems.

Difficult Life Events

Difficult life events can include, bereavement, divorce, experiencing abuse, loss, loneliness, exams and studying, serious illness or poor health, or financial hardship, to name a few. Therapy can offer a safe space for you to talk about many difficult life problems. It can offer non-judgmental empathy and compassion. you can experience being heard and understood and have your feelings validated.

Stress

Stress can be defined as a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation. Although it is a natural response that prompts us to address challenges, it can sometimes be very  difficult to manage. Counselling can help you to explore and understand what is causing your stress. you can then work together to find specific solutions to combat it.
